UVU Associate Professor Dr. Bernd Kupka Featured Speaker at Global Professionalization SeminarOREM, UT—October 20, 2015 Dr. Bernd Kupka, associate professor of management at UVU's Woodbury School of Business, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Global Professionalization Seminar, November 6 at UVU.First in a series sponsored by UVU's International Business program and the Woodbury School of Business, the November event will focus on the need for cultivating language and cultural skills in international business. "We're very pleased to have the expertise of Dr. Kupka as part of our event. This event will show students the important role that language and cultural knowledge play in understanding the nuances of international business," said Janey Top, event organizer. "From language to finding the right position to cultural differences, the seminar will be an excellent platform to share rich experiences and advice with students who are serious about a career abroad." Kupka leads the seminar agenda, focusing on the importance of language and cultural skills in today's global economy. Dr. Kupka's teaching interests include domestic and international human resource management, training and development, organizational behavior, and organizational communication. His business classes include a high component of experiential education, where students work as external consultants for local organizations. Kupka's research focuses on all issues related to expatriation, the practice of sending corporate representatives on short and long-term business assignments abroad. Dr. Kupka is the advisor to the UVU student chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management. The one hour seminar also features Jeff McGhie, CEO advisor at VimpelCom, who recently returned to the U.S., after working for international companies for the last 20 years . He will share his valuable first-hand knowledge of living and working abroad in Moscow and Holland. Kupka and McGhie will collectively address the specifics of taking language skills to the international workplace, how to find employment, and what adjustments to expect in pursuit of an international career entail.
