Cedar Hills celebrates the family through festival

By Linda Petersen
Cedar Hills' yearly celebration, the Family Festival, will be held from Tuesday, May 30, to Saturday, June 3, this year. There are a wide variety of events planned, many of which are free of charge.
Special events this year include the new Night out Against Crime (Friday, 6 to 9 p.m., Cedar Ridge Elementary School, 4501 W. Cedar Hills Drive), sponsored by the American Fork Police Department. There will be emergency vehicle tours, the Utah Highway Patrol seatbelt crash car simulation and a bike safety obstacle course. On Wednesday, car fans can enjoy a free Classic Car Show and Food Rally at Heritage Park, 4425 W. Cedar Hills Drive, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The ever popular Dinner & Movie in the Park will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Park. The movie, "Moana," is free. Advance tickets for the dinner catered by Meiers Meats and Fine Foods are $5.
The parade will be Saturday morning at 10 a.m. beginning at 4800 West and Cedar Hills Drive.
On Saturday there will be several activities at Heritage Park for children including a firemen's water cannon, buried treasure, children's games and a ducky derby. Everyone can try their hand in the baking contest (ages 17 or younger; 18 or above) or just wander though the many food and craft booths at the park.
There will be a carnival at Heritage Park Thursday through Saturday. Admission is $25 for an all-day pass.
Every day, geocaching fans will get a chance to hone their skills with geocache coordinates being posted on the city's Family Festival web page, http://cedarhills.org/geocache-2017 by Friday, May 26, at 4 p.m. There will also be a free Zumba class Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Heritage Park basketball courts and a free fun run at Cedar Ridge Elementary on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Other activities include a Wednesday Family Swim Night at the Pleasant Grove Veterans Memorial Pool, 454 E. 300 South, and a Firecracker Golf Tournament at the Cedar Hills Golf Club, 10640 N. Clubhouse Drive, that same day. There will be a pickleball tournament on Friday and Saturday in Burgess Park in Alpine, 200 W. Canyon Crest Road, with a soccer tournament for ages 10-15 after the festival on Tuesday, June 6, at Mesquite Park, 10455 N. Mesquite Way.
The Family Festival will finish up with a fireworks spectacular at Mesquite Park at 10 p.m. Coordinating music will be broadcast on 99.9 FM.
