Eagle Mountain home to authors and publishers

By Mike Kieffer
Eagle Mountain is full of talented people. Eagle Mountain is home to several small, home-based publishing companies as well as home to a handful of authors. Below is a list of some of those authors as well as some of the publishing companies.

Eagle Mountain-Based Publishing Companies

One of those publish companies is Athena Press. Athena Press currently has two books that it has published, both books are from different authors. The book "Attacks" is an English translation of Erin Rommel's World Ward I military classic "Infanterie Greift An." Also available from Athena Press is the book "Magic: The Untold Story of U.S. Intelligence and the Evacuation of Japanese Residents from the West Coast During WWII" by David D. Lowman. "Magic" is about the U.S. Army Signal Intelligence Service in the late 1940s.

Eagle Mountain is also home to another publishing company called Atom Splitter Publication LLC. "Atomic Splitter is dedicated to providing uncompromising adult literature bursting with action, suspense, thrills, pulp, and anything else that seems really awesome. These are sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure tales that will hold nothing back." The books they sell are authored by Alan Paananen, a Eagle Mountain resident. "Rider of the White Horse" describes a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth has become a wasteland and clone soldier takes on the evil Klokan Empire that has risen from a ashes of a nuclear war and environmental disaster. "The Garrison" is a fantasy adventure that contains combat, drama, romance and conflict.

Another publishing company is Eagle Mountain Publishing. It specializes in books about herpetology or the branch of zoology dealing with reptiles and amphibians. Their titles include "Biology of the Boas and Pythons," "Amphibians, Reptiles, and Turtles in Kansas," "Amphibians and Reptiles of San Luis Potosi," "Rigor Vitae: Live Unyeilding - The Art of Cartel Pieter Brest Van Kempen," and "Conservation of Mesoamerican Amphibians and Reptiles." Their books can only be purchased through their website www.eaglemountainpublishing.com.

Eagle Mountain Authors

Jaclyn Weist is an Idaho farm girl who grew up loving to read. She developed a love for writing at a young age and published her first book in 2013. She met her husband, Steve, at Brigham Young University and they have six happy, crazy children who encourage her to keep writing. After owning a bookstore and running away to have adventures in Australia, they settled back down in their home in Utah. Jaclyn now spends her days herding her kids to various activities and trying to remember what she was supposed to do next. Her books include the Silver Script series,  "Endless: A Modern Cinderella Tale," "The Princess and the Prom Queen," "The Princess and the Sorceress," and the Luck series, which helped feed her obsession with all things Irish.

Courtney Johnson, not an Eagle Mountain resident but soon to be principal of the new Eagle Mountain High School, is also an author. She has co-authored the "My Troll Patrol" series. The series is designed to teach school-aged children pro-social skills. These skills include honesty, responsibility, respect, doing hard things, friendship and standing up to bullies.
